2021 MotoGP™ recap: Aragon Grand Prix

The premier class victory wait came to an end for Pecco as the Italian and Marc Marquez treated us to a beautiful battle in Aragon

Heading to MotorLand Aragon, after claiming victory at Silverstone, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) was 65 points clear in the title chase. But Aragon has never been a happy playground for the Frenchman, and 2021 wasn’t much different.

Aragon was – and is – a favourable stomping ground for Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) though. The eight-time World Champion came into the weekend as a five-time winner at the venue, and it was clear from the off that Marquez was in the groove on the anti-clockwise layout. But so was Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team).

What we were treated to was marvellous. Pecco vs Marc Marquez for victory. The latter attacked the Italian no less than seven times in the last four laps, but Pecco was able to hold on to claim that elusive maiden MotoGP™ victory. Just over six tenths split Pecco and Marc Marquez at the chequered flag, and it was the start of a magnificent run for the Ducati star.

Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) had to settle for third place, which was his fifth podium of the year, as Championship leader Quartararo finished in a lowly eighth place.
