Bagnaia backed his Aragon triumph up with a home turf victory, as a new name picked up a rostrum in the premier class
That first MotoGP™ victory in Aragon certainly got the ball rolling for Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team). As they say: there’s no place like home. And at the San Marino GP, held as always at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Pecco picked up his second 25-point haul of the season.
Pecco claimed pole position on Saturday and started like the rocket on Sunday. It seemed like the Italian was heading for a comfortable and dominant win, but World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) almost spoiled the party. Bagnaia held on to victory by just three tenths to reduce the gap to Quartararo to 48 points in the title chase.
Joining the Italian and Frenchman on the podium was 2020 Moto2™ World Champion Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP). The Italian showed incredible pace on Sunday to climb his way from 12th on the grid to claim his first premier class rostrum in P3, bringing him into the Rookie of the Year title frame.
